You may have noticed that what was a constant stream of regular improvements to Lineascope.com has ended. Here’s why: I leaned a ton about how you do your research and how you use (and want to use) Lineascope. So, I’m re-writing it. The next release will be a 2.0 version with a simpler workflow that’s even more focused on information and evidence collection followed by analysis and proof writing. It will also be a desktop application for Mac and Windows as well as an Internet service. I don’t know yet whether it will be a simultaneous release on all platforms or come out on on of them first. I’ll tell you when I choose.

A general comment/question: Will Lineascope 2 be able to ‘import’ data from earlier versions of it? If so, fine. If not, that would be a good addition.
Hi, John. Lineascope 2 for Mac and PC will absolutely import data from Lineascope 1. Lineascope 2 for web will convert existing evidence chains automatically.

Hi Ben,
I stumbled upon your site following a link in a comment at The Ancestry Insider. I’ve no Google account and haven’t tried Lineascope yet, but it looks very promising to me. I will definitely try the desktop version in the future!
Have you heard of the “Build a Better Gedcom” effort? It’s at
http://bettergedcom.wikispaces.com/
The name says it all, mostly. The aim is to define _the_ new standard data format for genealogy, so that people can share their whole work including sources, evidence and conclusions.
Maybe you would be interested to join the effort or just give your insights and wishes for a “better Gedcom”. There are a lot of interesting discussions going on at the moment with a lot of smart people contributing.
Thanks!
As a new PC to Mac convert, I have just discovered your websites and Lineascope. This sounds fascinating! I have been looking for a linear research protocol to help organize my efforts with challenging problems. Do you have any news of when version 2 might be available? I am especially interested in offline use — great idea.
Hi, Denise. No, I haven’t any news on version 2 availability yet. It’s on hold as I finish the first phase of another project. I’ll update this site when I resume work on Lineascope 2.
Mark Tucker has done some great work on a genealogy process that you may be interested in. See his site, http://www.thinkgenealogy.com.
